Pakistan to Provide $66.4
Million for CNG Buses for
Karachi
2 July 2006
The City District Government
Karachi (CDGK) has devised a
program to replace old buses
with 8,000 new CNG buses over
the next four years.
The federal government is
offering Rs 4 billion (US$66.4
million) to help the local
transporters to get these buses
imported at subsidized rates.
The CDGK has also earmarked Rs
500 million (US$8.3 million) for
the scheme under its current
fiscal year budget. This will be
complemented with an annual
allocation of Rs 10 billion
(US$166 million) per year for
the next three consecutive
years.
“The city government is keen to
improve the public transport
system and this requires close
coordination among all the
relevant stakeholders,” said [Naib
Nazim Nasreen] Jalil.
